Data Sources & References

This project synthesizes data from multiple sources to create a comprehensive, illustrative model of college matriculation patterns. Private schools are not subject to the same public disclosure requirements as public schools, making data collection more challenging.

Primary Data Sources

  • School-Published Matriculation Lists & Profiles: The primary source for private school data is their own published materials. Elite private schools almost universally publish detailed, multi-year matriculation lists as a key marketing and informational tool for prospective families.
  • Public University System Data: Public data from institutions like The University of Texas and Texas A&M systems provide reliable, aggregate statistics on applications, admissions, and enrollments from private high schools.

Secondary & Supporting Sources

  • Third-Party Data Aggregators: Platforms compiling data from various sources (e.g., surveys, self-reports) are used for cross-referencing and modeling.
  • Local News & Community Reports: Publications in affluent areas often report on the college destinations of local private school graduates.

Important Disclaimer

All data presented on this website is illustrative and for modeling purposes only, reflecting the 2020-2025 period. The list of schools is representative, not exhaustive. The matriculation numbers and percentages are synthesized estimates designed to reflect likely outcomes based on a school's profile and available data. They are not official, verified counts from the schools themselves unless otherwise noted. Families should always consult a school's official profile and speak with school counselors for the most accurate and up-to-date information.

Rating Methodology

Our Elite College Placement Index (ECPI) is calculated to provide a comprehensive measure of a school's success in preparing students for higher education. The data is illustrative, based on publicly available school profiles and statistical modeling for the 2020-2025 period.

ECPI Score Components & Weighting

The total ECPI score is a weighted average of five components, each scaled to a 0-100 score to ensure comparability. For our Texas analysis, we focus on placement at top national universities and the state's premier public institutions.

  • T25 National University Matriculation (30%): Based on the percentage of graduates attending a Top 25 National University.
  • T15 Liberal Arts College Matriculation (20%): Based on the percentage of graduates attending a Top 15 Liberal Arts College.
  • Top Texas Public University Matriculation (20%): Based on the percentage of graduates attending The University of Texas at Austin or Texas A&M University.
  • Other Top Texas University Matriculation (10%): Based on the percentage of graduates attending other Top Texas universities (e.g., Texas Tech, Baylor, SMU, TCU).
  • College Readiness Score (20%): Based on an internal score reflecting AP/IB rates, average test scores, and National Merit Scholar counts.

Psychometric & Mean Scaling

A simple weighted average can be misleading. To solve this, we use a two-step scaling process:

  1. Normalization (0-100 Scale): For each of the components, we analyze the range of scores across all schools in our database. Each school's raw score is then scaled to a value between 0 and 100. This converts raw data into a standardized measure of performance relative to peers.
  2. Mean Adjustment (Target Mean of 70): After calculating an initial ECPI score based on the weighted average of the scaled components, we apply a linear adjustment to every school's score to shift the overall average to a target of 70. This makes 70 the benchmark for a "strong" performance within the Dallas context.
